FAQs – Ultrasound Elite Baby Scans
Does a baby scan with Ultrasound Elite in Birmingham replace my NHS scheduled scan?
No, private scans do not replace your NHS scans. We strongly recommend attending all NHS scheduled scans alongside any private scans.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment.
What do I do when I arrive?
If you arrive early, please wait at reception. A receptionist or sonographer will greet you and guide you to the clinic room when it’s time for your scan.
How long will my appointment last?
The duration of your appointment depends on the type of scan you are having. For more details, please check the information under each service.
Do I need to have a full bladder?
Eat and drink as usual before your appointment, but to ensure the best image quality, please drink around 0.5 litres (1 pint) of water about an hour before your scan. Avoid emptying your bladder before your appointment.
Can I bring friends and family with me?
Yes! We encourage you to share this special experience with your loved ones.
Should I bring anything with me?
If you have any notes from your midwife or doctor, please bring them along. If you’re attending an early pregnancy baby scan and haven’t had a midwife appointment yet, you’re still welcome to visit us. If you do not have any notes, you can still attend.
What should I wear?
Since we need to access your abdomen, we recommend wearing a two-piece outfit (e.g., trousers/skirt and a top) for convenience.
What happens if you can’t see the baby clearly?
If your baby’s position makes it difficult to complete the scan, we offer a free rescan. This will be discussed with you during your appointment.
Is ultrasound scanning safe?
Yes, ultrasound scans during pregnancy are considered safe for both mother and baby. We follow guidelines from The British Medical Ultrasound Society, and all our sonographers are highly trained, qualified, and experienced in obstetric scanning. You can also read more about private baby scans on our blog.
What if you detect a problem?
If any concerns arise during your fetal health scan, the sonographer will explain the findings and help you seek further care if needed. You will also receive a written report detailing the results.
